Day 5 Health Activist Writers Challenge: Ekphrasis Post
So I had to look up the definition of Ekphrasis: a literary
description of or commentary on a visual work of art .

I am supposed to link this photo somehow to a health focus! Hmmmmm....
So first, I love Love LOVE Volkswagens!!! I have a little bit of an obsession with them. This photo is hearkening back to the 70's hippy era. I am not so good at the commentary on the photo am I? LOL
To link it back to the health focus, I will answer the question on the photo. Wanna Ride? No thank you I will walk!

Day 4 Health Activist Writers Challenge: I write about my health because...
I am supposed to take 15-20 minutes about this topic. However, after being in the ER for umpteen hours with LBG I am tired and wish to go to bed.
I write about my health (when I make the time) because it keeps me accountable to me. I enjoy checking in on everyone and the feedback I get from you all, but really (and I am about to use a phrase I loathe) at the end of the day, its about me being accountable to me...Night night.

Day 3 Health Activist Writers Challenge: SuperPower Day
If you had a superpower - what would it be? How would you use it?
I would want the superpower to heal. I hate seeing people sick and in pain. I would like to be able to fix that. Plain an simple!

Day 2 Health Activist Writers Challenge: Quotation Inspiration
My quotation inspiration would be my friend Leon Walker's "Mind your Fitness." I have seen this quote written be him every day for I don't know how long as he advertises his Boot Camp or going to the gym for a personal workout. It really didn't click in my mind until last week the depth of its meaning. He just says it all the time and I've heard/read it and move on. Well last Tuesday I went to my first spin class. I had a wonderful time and probably should have blogged about it then, but whatevs. I was sitting next to this girl who made herself out to seem extremely competitive which for me was great. I like to win, but I have never really been in a workout situation where I could actually have a calculated measure of "winning" IE gear level and distance. So naturally I was the largest person in the class and this lady next to me the second largest. She was busy trying to keep up with the instructor and the skinny girl next to her asking what gear they were on and what distance they had gone. I was just focused on doing me, with a hint of competition.
I had surgery on my ankle in 2007 and I still baby it. I am very aware of each step that I take and every move that I make when I am working out doing any exercise that may affect its stability. The instructor happens to also be my personal trainer so she was telling me to push myself within my limits of comfort when it comes to my ankle. Well if you have ever taken a spin class before you know the issues I have with my ankle were quickly put to the side because off the issues I started having with my butt and lady bits! So I did the best that I could all things considered and the class went very well. I was fully expecting to be the slowest as the class ended and everyone was comparing their distances. I went a full 3 miles farther than the competitive lady and I wasn't even trying to compete. I minded my fitness! I stayed in my lane and did the best I could do with my particular set of circumstances. I will continue to workout this way. Had I tried to "keep up" with competitive lady I would have sold myself short even though she had the huff and puff of being the best. I am going to mind my fitness and set my only competition as who it really is....ME!

MISSED: Day 1 Health Activist Writers Challenge: Health Time Capsule
My brain was unable to function properly yesterday. I will post on that probably in a few weeks (truth) ...
Health Time Capsule: Pretend you’re making a time capsule of you & your health focus that won’t be opened until 2112. What’s in it? What would people think of it when they found it?
I would put my Weight Watchers information kit, the Y Group Fitness Schedule, my Beachbody DVD Collection, and my before and after pictures. Hopefully people would think "this lady really minds her fitness!" On to the next...

I found it!
I found my motivation. So I have been trying to figure ways to get myself back in to the gym, or at least back into my home gym. I thought of material things like a spa day as a gift to self or a new cocktail ring when I reach my goal. However, my wonderful husband has already gifted me with those things just because he knows I want them. So then I though of not using them until I reach goal, which I may still do. Its still not enough though, using my daughter as an inspiration is great, but I am pretty fit for a chubby girl so I am not hindered by it at this point. Yes, I need to loose weight to be considered healthy and I don't dispute that, but I outrun the skinny chicks in my Boot Camp class and my trainer says I am the strongest chick she knows.
My motivation right now is my mom. She came to the house and told me her doctor said her heart was enlarging due to complications from her diabetes. So that kicked me into action. She can't do a lot of physical activity in the "normal" sense i.e. gym activities due to a shoulder injury AND she refuses to go to group classes at the Y with me. What that woman can do though is dance! I have an XBOX 360 kinect and y'all know what just came out right? ZUMBA Rush!!! I bought it yesterday and we are going to start doing a half hour of it nightly. I figure even if she can't do all of the moves it will get her active and that is a start. I will also be making all of her meals (We live next door to each other). So here we go a journey to a slimmer me and a healthier Nana as my daughter calls her.
PS. I still wouldn't mind another 30 day challenge if any of you know of a good one.
